    Montessori Architecture is a design instrument for children’s learning environments. Montessori Architecture’s Design Instrument illustrates a series of solutions, called Patterns.

    Montessori for Kenya is an NGO established in 2019 to enable and support the growth of Montessori education in Kenya. It is the project manager of Corner of Hope Montessori school https://cornerofhope-esf.org/ that gives education to the children in an IDP camp in Nakuru. MfK – the client is interested to use Montessori principles and the Montessori design instrument to construct a Montessori model school in Nakuru, Kenya. It is envisioned that the school will serve the community of IDP’s and residents in Pipeline area and beyond. More details are entailed in the competition brief.

    Information for the interested parties.

    Recent graduates – these are young men/women who have recently graduated from a university in Kenya in the past 3 years. He/she should have AAK membership. Women and people with disability are highly encouraged to apply.

    Students – A student in 3rd to 6th year at the Department of Architecture in a Kenyan University. If you are a student in a University outside Kenya, you will be allowed to participate alongside a Kenyan student in a group.

    Requirements to enter the competition

    • Must be a student or recent graduate of Architecture
    • Registered with AAK if graduated or proof of student ID
    • Fill in the Montessori Architecture form https://forms.gle/WjW9MY2NLm3rixgw8
    • Upload 2 samples of past work
    • Provide your email address and phone number
    • The forms can be filled individually or;
    • As a group. All members in a group should upload their best samples of past designs. If the group is selected, other members will be required to provide their information and past work.

    Schedule of the competition:

    7th November 2024 – online workshop, call for application and launch of the competition.

    22th November 2024 – closure of registration.

    23rd to 27th November – shortlisting

    29th November – communication and invitation to the site

    3rd December 2024 – site visit and 2nd physical workshop (more detailed brief, design instrument and Q&A with experienced Montessori Architects).

    At the end of the competition, winners will be awarded as follows in Kenya shillings:

    1. 125,000.00
    2. 100,000.00
    3. 75,000.00

    Runners up will each receive an award of 20,000.00.
