Diploma Courses

There are three Montessori teacher training centres in Kenya with an affiliation to AMI, in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru. Currently, Montessori teacher training is offered in Kenya in the following formats:

National Montessori Certificate

2-year programme, first year theory and material making (complete set of Montessori materials), second year teaching practice with regular assessments.
Entry requirements: High school graduates with C minus or above.

National Montessori Diploma

2-year in service programme, deepening of theoretical knowledge of Montessori principles and practice, modules offered during school holidays and regular assessments.
Entry requirements: Montessori certificate

AMI International Diploma

Offered in different formats, academic (1 year) or modular (2-3 years). Includes at least 400 training hours, 140 hours of supervised practice and 170 hours observation & teaching practice
Entry requirements: National Diploma / bachelor’s or equivalent

The International AMI Diploma offers further deepening of understanding along with a refinement of practice. Teachers with an International AMI Diploma are equipped with a strong understanding of child development, the purpose and use of the materials and the role of the adult in supporting the child. The AMI Diploma is internationally recognized, and diploma holders are in high demand. An international 3-6 AMI Diploma Course is currently being held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where full scholarships are offered to committed teachers from East African countries. The fully sponsored International 6-12 AMI Diploma Course is currently ongoing in Mwanza, Tanzania which will run until February 2026.
